The phone rang this morning. "Nothing unusual about that" I can hear you saying to yourself. Indeed phones are designed to ring, so in a surreal Zen like way the phone was correct in its actions and doing nothing more than fulfilling its own destiny.
What is important is the reason for its ringing. A recruiter was calling me offering a possible job opportunity as a lab temp for the duration of three months with the possibility of further extensions in the future.
At this point you are most likely asking yourself what is wrong with this!
Well I shall disclose to you my issues with said caller.
Firstly it was almost impossible to understand the recruiter whom went by the name of Dinish due to his deep Indian accent. Even worse was the fact that he was indeed calling from India. After trying to decipher his ramblings for five minutes I decided my best defense was to request he emailed me the details.
So after hanging up the phone with really little to no clue as to whom he represented I fired up my personal email. Sure enough he had forwarded the information to me at lightening like speed.
OK so the description of the job was somewhat close to the dialogue his broken English had assaulted me with just moments earlier but the location was Iselin, NJ.
Now I live in Naperville IL which is roughly give or take 1000 miles from Iselin NJ. As you can imagine it took me all of 3 seconds to decide this commute was not going to work out.
We live in a country where one in ten Americans are struggling to find a job, yet some guy who hardly spoke English, located in a foreign country (India), with no geographical knowledge of either my location or that of the prospective employer is attempting to recruit me as a temp.
My question is this:
When will we realize that the continual outsourcing of all technical services to foreign countries is both unproductive, due to the language barriers and destruction of the American economy?
